CO Senate

TERM: 4 years; 2 terms

  • Can serve more than 8 years if filling a vacancy after half of the existing term has been served, then can serve two additional full terms. (Source: State Constitution, Article 5 Section 3)
    • Can serve for 10 years, if sworn in the day after the session marking the halfway point convenes.
    • Must have 4 consecutive years between terms to not be considered consecutive. Therefore a State Senator who has served 2 full consecutive terms and desires to be a State Senator must be out of office for a full 4 years prior to taking that specific office again.
