Joseph Neguse is a Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional District of Colorado. [1]

Biography

Neguse graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and worked for the then-Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives. He co-founded New Era Colorado, the largest youth registration and mobilization non-profit in the state, and was elected to a six-year term on the CU Board of Regents in 2008. Following the end of his term, he was appointed to lead the Colorado consumer protection agency. [2]

Environment

  • Combat climate change through:
    • Significantly increasing investments in renewable energy
    • Eliminating subsidies for fossil-fuel companies
    • Repealing the Federal “Halliburton-loophole” for natural gas development.
    • Supporting the incredible Federal research labs throughout CD2
  • Fight against privatization and oil-and-gas development efforts on Federal public lands, and continue Congressman Polis’ efforts to protect open space in CD2 (such as the Continental Divide Wilderness and Recreation Act) and across Colorado, including protecting national monuments like Bears Ears and Browns Canyon.

Health Care

  • Oppose efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and fight for a national Medicare-For-All healthcare system.

Labor Rights

  • Fight for fair wage policies such as the Paycheck Fairness Act and Raise the Wage legislation to increase the minimum wage to $15.

Social Justice

  • Protect women’s reproductive rights, including supporting the EACH Woman Act of 2017 that protects a woman’s right to choose.
  • Fight for immigration reform, and champion legislation to protect all Americans from discrimination (such as the Equality Act).
  • Overturn the disastrous Citizens United decision.
  • Fight for Automatic Voter Registration. and reform the dysfunctional Federal Election Commission.

Education

  • Make public higher education more affordable for all Coloradans.

Gun Control

  • Fight for sensible gun-control measures, such as closing the Federal “gun show loophole,” supporting an assault-weapons ban, and opposing concealed-carry “reciprocity” legislation.
